Who I am
If someone had told me, at the beginning of the 90s, that I would spend a large part of my professional life managing construction sites in the heart of West Africa, I probably would have smiled. My name is Massimiliano Conci, I was born in Trento in 1972, and my story begins right in the mountains of Trentino, with a diploma as a Surveyor and a deep curiosity for the world. In Italy, I laid the foundations for what would become a thirty-year career. I started by training in the field with metal structures, scaffolding systems, and temporary works, then moved on to the technical management of plumbing and HVAC systems. Subsequently, I worked as a Project Manager and Technical Director for a company dealing with public contracts for local and regional administrations, where I dedicated almost ten years to the management of large road infrastructures, bridges, and technological systems. It was an extraordinary school that taught me a lot, from operational rigor to the importance of quality management systems. Then, in November 2009, came the turning point: Nigeria. My impact with this reality was total, through a complex, stimulating, unpredictable, and, in general, very fulfilling path. I started in Apapa, the industrial and port heart of Lagos, managing the portfolio of real estate and infrastructure investments for an Oil & Gas Company, operating mainly in Northern Nigeria. From there, my path led me to explore the deep diversities of this country, moving to various regions to coordinate civil engineering projects in complex and challenging contexts. Since November 2012, I have held the role of Project Manager for a company dealing with Interior Design & Logistics, an international entity operating between Italy, Nigeria, China, and Hong Kong. Over these years, I have led the design, complex cross-border logistics, and installation of high-level interior fit-outs and technical doors and windows. If you walk through Lagos or Abuja, it is very likely that you will pass near a project I coordinated personally: from the exclusive villas of Banana Island and Lekki, to strategic works such as the Abuja International Airport Hotel, the supply of special works for the Afrexim Medical Center of Excellence (AMCE), the AATC in Abuja, or the National Judicial Auditorium in Abuja. Today, with more than 30 years of international experience, 17 of which were lived entirely in the field in Nigeria, I do not speak of this country as a detached observer. I have experienced firsthand what it means to coordinate a global supply chain in Africa, how to manage local labor, how to face daily bureaucratic challenges, and, above all, how to build a successful life and a solid daily routine in one of the most energetic and complex nations on the planet.
